Our Story
EL PORTAL Press and Publishing Company is about reaching readers with good books.
The EL PORTAL Press and Publishing Company emerged from The Writer's Studio in Savannah, Georgia. Author Mark Morneweg arrived in Savannah with two hand-written manuscripts, and a third typed on a manual typewriter. While in the writer's studio, he completed a novel in progress, wrote a screen treatment, and began yet a fourth book.
The EL PORTAL Press was originally created to transform his vision into published work. Drawing on years of working with writers, editors, designers and marketing teams, the result became three books who went through the complete publishing experience--from editing to page design, book design, production, and marketing.
The experience was the life-affirming example that authors need publishers to reach their readers.
Our mission is that. We work with authors who believe in their work; may not have the interest or expertise to be self-published or have not yet been successful at being picked up by a major publisher.
A well packaged book: Well designed, well written and promoted may find great appeal with a mainstream publisher.
EL PORTAL Press is focusing on three categories for our book list:
1) Authors whose story and characters are defined by an archetypal quality, including children's book authors and illustrators.
2) Books that enjoyed great appeal in other countries at one time, but have yet to be translated into English.
3) New, meaning previously unpublished writers.
